10 Reasons to Attend Boerne Berges Fest

One of our favorite small-ish Hill Country towns puts on a heckuva German-style festival every summer.

Although at rush hour some locals miss the days when this now hip-and-happening town North of San Antonio was a less hip-and-happening, Boerne remains true to its roots each June in honoring the German heritage of its founders at the 52nd annual Boerne Berges Fest (Father’s Day Weekend, June 15 – 18, 2018).

Here’s some of what you can expect to experience when you go:

1. Dachshund races. Need we say more?

2. An honest-to-goodness small-town parade up the Hauptstrasse (a.k.a. Main Street) on Saturday morning.

3. Live entertainment including classic German-style music.

4. Carnival rides for the young and the young-at-heart festival goers.

5. Keg tossing and stein holding (18+ only, please).

6. A horseshoe tournament and tractor races.

7. A proper, old-fashioned festival “court.”

8. Bull riding and mutton busting at the fairgrounds.

9. A strong sense of old-school culture and tradition, with many class reunion events for old-timers (and a few young whippersnappers as well).

10. Best of all, Boerne Berges Fest is FREE! Learn more.
