You’ll love the sights and sounds of this Hill Country town as it welcomes Lavandula fans.
There’s no need to brush up on your fancy Latin plant names, however, to head over to Blanco and see how this beloved plant has taken root in the at-times hardscrabble landscape. Every year the local chamber of commerce hosts its annual Blanco Lavender Festival.
Here’s why you’re gonna wanna check it out:
1. It’s free. (YAY!)
2. You can visit a working lavender farm to meet with the farmers and learn how they bring those sweet-smelling blooms to market.
3. You can shop for lavender-themed and other handmade items on the grounds of the historic Blanco courthouse, right in the center of town, at the Lavender Market.
4. Inside the (air-conditioned) courthouse you’ll find various speakers extolling lavender’s virtues–and teaching how to incorporate the plants into your landscape and life.
5. There’s live music scheduled for each of the three days of the festival.
6. There are several dining options in downtown Blanco, and many of them will be serving up special lavender-infused meals. (Besides, where else can you sip lavender lemonade or enjoy a “Lavender Lizzie,” the festival’s signature drink?)
7. You can pop into Brieger Pottery on the square to pick up something handmade to take home.
8. Nearby Blanco State Park makes for an inviting destination to cool off–or even get in a little fishing.
9. We’re confident that you’ll enjoy tucking into a delicious apple pie at The Deutsch Apple.
10. Just outside of town you’ll find the Andalusia Whiskey Company, where you can buy a souvenir to enjoy safely at home.
