Whatever the occasion, it’s helpful to know where to find a good pizza.

To help you out, here’s our list of the best Hill Country pizzerias, reflecting staff and reader recommendations from across the area.

Best Hill Country pizzerias

Comfort Pizza

802 High St., Comfort, TX 78013 | ComfortPizza.com

“Worth the drive”

Driving along Comfort’s charming main drag, it’s hard to miss the colorful Comfort Pizza storefront fashioned from an old gas station. This place is so popular that it’s recommended to call ahead to reserve your homemade pizza dough. But every slice is worth it, thanks to a wood-fired oven. Salads and gelato round out the menu. Dining outside under the large umbrellas is an experience to be remembered—and shared.

Florio’s PizzaRe

11851 Bandera Rd. Suite 121, Helotes, TX 78023

“Great for takeaway and gluten-free options”

Recommended to us by a reader, this option is reportedly less about the dining experience and more about getting authentic East Coast pizza in South Central Texas. Also recommended to us? The calzones and gluten-free pizza. (There’s another Florio’s in Alamo Heights, too.)

Fralo’s

23651 IH-10, San Antonio, TX 78257 | Fralos.com

“Perfect for groups”

If you’re looking for a spot to dine under the stars, this is the place. Locals and visitors alike count on Fralo’s for their unique hand-tossed pizza and outdoor dining under sprawling live oaks. On warm nights, this popular eatery can be packed with diners, all enjoying the slow, gentle pace for which the restaurant is known. If you’re in a rush, you might prefer takeaway. But if you’re wanting a place to linger over a pizza pie with good friends, this is a good bet.

Pie Society

700 N LBJ Dr. #107, San Marcos, TX 78666 | PieSMTX.com

“Reminds me of my college days”

Hand tossed pizza. A funky vibe. Tasty salads. Pie Society has all this and more, making it incredibly popular with local college kids and families alike. Outdoor seating is available, albeit somewhat limited. You could get it to go, however, and head over to City Park to take in a little nature.

West End Pizza Company

207 E. San Antonio, Fredericksburg, TX 78624  | WestEndPizzaCompany.com

“Best pizza I’ve eaten in a long time”

NOTE: The new location will open in spring 2021. For now, the pizzeria is closed.

Among all of the options we’ve listed, this one remains our hands-down favorite—in part because of an extraordinarily tasty gluten-free pizza we devoured a couple of years back. The sauce was especially delicious, and all pizzas are wood-fired. We’ve heard good things about their homemade meatballs and spaghetti, too. All in all, hard to beat for families.

What are some of your favorite Hill Country pizzerias? We’d love to hear from you!
