Visual Arts

March is Contemporary Arts Month in the Alamo City, with a number of events scheduled at venues across town. Meanwhile, The Witte opens an impressive exhibition, Confluence and Culture: 300 Years of San Antonio History, for the city’s tricentennial observance (March 3 through January 6, 2019).

At the Blanton in Austin, James Drake: Tongue Cut Sparrows opens in the museum’s film and video gallery (March 10 through May 20).

Performing Arts

Yes, it’s SXSW time again in Austin (March 9 through 18). We’re hoping you lucked into some great passes, but just in case you didn’t (or if the music festival is just not your vibe) we’ve got some other performing arts options—like the Second Annual South Texas Blues Festival at San Antonio’s Tobin Center (March 17).

Also in the Alamo City, movie fans will rejoice to learn that the San Antonio Symphony is presenting La La Land in concert at the Majestic Theatre (March 2 & 3). At the same venue a few days later, Pink Martini performs at a benefit for the San Antonio River Foundation and the Las Casas Foundation (March 7).

In the New Braunfels area, kick up your heels for Texas Independence Day with the legendary Joe Ely at The Brauntex (March 2).

At the area’s community theatres, Boerne Community Theatre will produce Donald Margulies’ adult drama, Time Stands Still (March 2 through 10) while Fredericksburg Theatre Company completes a run of The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy (Through March 4).

When it comes to the dance hall scene, we’re liking the looks of Sunny Sweeney at Floore’s in Helotes (March 23), Max Stalling at Kendalia Halle (March 10), and Asleep at the Wheel at Gruene Hall (March 24).

Finally, as a friendly reminder, it’s time to purchase your Kerrville Folk Festival passes (May 24 through June 10).
