Order up and enjoy Chef Mark Bohanan’s flaky, golden crust and delicious filling–and help a local charity in the process.
Editor’s Note: an earlier version of this story emphasized the gluten-free nature of the pie pictured above, but alas that option is not available in the Pie In the Sky promotion this December. Other gluten-free options are available, however, on the regular menu! Visit the restaurant for details.
With the holidays upon us at last, we’re turning our thoughts a little closer to home and hearth. Since we’re based near Boerne, we know that the community offers a lot of cozy charm and foodie bliss. What we didn’t know is that the legendary Peggy’s on the Green offers whole pies.
At the generous invitation of Chef Mark Bohanan’s team, we recently enjoyed a delicious lunch at Peggy’s, a meal that included a candied jalapeño appetizer, a pimento-cheese burger (available on a gluten-free bun), and a chess pie was sent home with us for dessert.
It was all amazing. Especially the pie.
And now you can order one of Peggy’s pies to savor yourself this year–or to give as a memorable hostess or thank you gift–through their “Pie in the Sky” holiday promotion. The featured pie for November is pumpkin; the one for December, chess. (The chess recipe is extra special because it is made from Peggy Bohanan’s original recipe.)
Even better, half of every pie’s $30 purchase price goes to the Boerne Education Foundation (BEF), a non-profit organization with a mission “to provide opportunities for excellence in education, promote innovation in teaching and partner with the community to enhance the quality of education.” Funds raised from Peggy’s “Pie in the Sky” sales directly benefit BEF’s work with Boerne ISD’s Culinary Arts Program.
Featured pies must be ordered 48 hours in advance and will be ready for pickup 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday (until December 20, 2018) by calling 210-254-3651 or by visiting PeggysOnTheGreen.com. As always, be sure to talk with the staff member about any food allergies you may have when ordering.
Prefer to head out to Peggy’s for a slice of pie at Thanksgiving or during Boerne’s legendary Dickens on Main event? Call and reserve a table A.S.A.P.! The restaurant will be open for the holiday weekend, offering up traditional holiday turkey, ham, and sides along with steaks on Turkey Day, the regular menu the rest of the weekend. ALL proceeds from each $7.95 slice of pie sold in the restaurant go to BEF.
Enjoy!
