You’re gonna love the cute gift shop we found inside a Texas Hill Country pharmacy.
Between the flu making the rounds and spring allergies, odds are decent that you’ll need a pharmacist sooner or later. Yet what if we told you that there is an upstart, independent Boerne pharmacy where you can pick up your prescription along with something adorable for yourself or a friend?
Until Adam Majors and his wife, Nisa, opened River Road Pharmacy last August, the pharmacist spent the bulk of his professional career as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting.
“We wanted to make something different from the competition, to give our customers regular, direct access to their personal pharmacist,” said Majors, a graduate of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. “Because we are a local retailer, money spent here with us stays here in Boerne, in the community and close to home.”
The new business near Cibolo Creek is located in 1,935 square feet of a larger building. The interior is cozy–and markedly more welcoming than those big, impersonal retail spaces to which we’ve all grown accustomed.
Beyond the homespun feel, however, there’s some serious work going on behind the counter to help people feel their best.
“We’re distinct from the major chain drugstores in that we have an on-site compounding pharmacy,” Majors said. “And because we are small, we can offer faster, more personal service including free delivery and a drive-thru pick up option. We also sell professional grade vitamins not available through the big chains.”
Also sold alongside bottles of Tylenol and boxes of Icy Hot patches is an impressive array of gift items. They’re nice things, too–the kind of goodies you might find in a store on Boerne’s main drag.
While Majors manages the pharmacy, he said that it’s his wife who oversees the gift shop (the “retail therapy,” if you will).
Alas, she wasn’t around on the day we visited, but we could tell she has put a lot of thought into the store. On display was a variety of bath and body goods, baby items, home and kitchen decor pieces, t-shirts, and lavender-scented room and linen sprays.
The small pharmacy is the kind of place to pop into on the way to a birthday party, wedding, or baby shower because you can pretty much count on leaving with an adorable gift in hand.
And maybe a bottle of Benadryl, too, just in case that spring pollen starts to give you trouble.
