Known as “a little bit of heaven,” the historic Hill Country community of Wimberley beckons with a delightful mixture of art, nature, and small town charm.

Once a trading post on Cypress Creek in rural Hays County, the charming community of Wimberley became a haven for creative spirits who appreciated the natural beauty and wanted to escape the buzz of bigger cities like Austin and San Antonio.
Tragically, two big storms less than six months apart tried hard to take the community down in 2015. But the citizens of Wimberley proved themselves to be, as they said often online in the aftermath, #WimberleyStrong.
A mixture of resilience and creativity has brought the town back, full force. Today the small community (population 3,019) is more delightful than ever, with a walking trail just off the main square, a longer hike and bike trail and an abundance of shopping options. (Us? We’re partial to visiting Kiss the Cook, The Gypsy Market, Los Olivos Market, and Circa Soap + Bath Company.) For art fans, there’s the legendary Wimberley Glassworks and the town’s annual spring art show.
Prefer to get to know the area swimming holes? Check out the legendary artesian karstic spring known as Jacob’s Well, the headwaters for Cypress Creek fed by the Trinity Aquifer. (Because the well is a protected natural area, be sure to call ahead to check on water levels and public access.) Also of note are Blue Hole Regional Park and Cypress Falls, the latter of which is a private property offering public access for a nominal charge as well as an on-site lodge and cafe.
In the mood for something refreshing to sip or savor? Dip into the Cypress Creek Reserve Rum Distillery, The Leaning Pear, Wimberley Cafe, or Brewster’s Pizza.
Finally, when you’re ready for a little shut eye, head to Blair House Inn, Creekhaven Inn, or our perennial favorite, Sinya on Lone Man Creek, a safari-inspired retreat featured in our 2018 guide to the most romantic getaways in the Hill Country.
