Big Easter Egg Hunt with Chris Saucedo Band (Luckenbach)
With two separate egg hunts (one for littles and one for big kids) plus music and games, we can’t think of a cuter place to get your Easter Sunday fun on. Doors open at noon. 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Free. Website.

Texas Hill Country Wineries Wine and Wildflowers (Various locations)
Continues through April 22
Warm weather, wildflowers, and wine sound worthwhile? Then be sure to get your tickets to this popular annual event showcasing 44 unique Hill Country wineries. Tickets are $45 per person; $75 per couple. Event locations, times vary. Website.
Fiddle Fest (Llano)
Continues through April 8
For three days fiddles are front and center in this beloved Hill Country community, with musicians of all ages competing for prizes. Other festival activities include a cowboy breakfast, a Sunday service, and an exhibition at the Llano Country Museum. Event locations, times vary. Website.
April 7
San Antonio Book Festival (San Antonio)
Expect more than 90 authors, programs and panels for all ages, family activities and a whole bunch of books at this annual event hosted by the San Antonio Public Library Foundation. Free. Website.
Viva Hemisfair (San Antonio)
It’s a jam-packed weekend in the Alamo City—and among the activities is the 50th anniversary of Hemisfair park. Multiple cultural organizations are offering special exhibits and discounts, and the Tower of the Americas is hosting a wine festival. Website
Gillespie County County Schools (Fredericksburg)
Showcasing the historic one-room school houses in and around Fredericksburg that were constructed by German immigrants to the area, this year’s annual open house (in the form of a self-guided driving tour) features schools in Luckenbach, Grapetown, and more. Free. Website.
Wildflower Celebration at Wildseed Farms (Fredericksburg)
Celebrate the wonders of springtime wildflowers at the country’s largest working wildflower farm. 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Free. Website.
April 14
Pecan Capital Street Dance XVIII (San Saba)
Kick up your heels at this old-fashioned street dance in one of our favorite Hill Country towns with music provided by Jason Boland and the Stragglers. 8:00 p.m. Tickets: $15. Facebook Event Page.
April 19
Fiesta (San Antonio)
Continues through April 28
Fiesta 2018 officially begins at Hemisfair Park and continues with a multitude of parties, parades, fairs, and performances. Locations, times, and event admission prices vary. Website.
April 21
26th Annual Texas Corvette Association Car Show (Boerne)
Did you know that this show is the only official Fiesta event held outside of San Antonio’s city limits? With over 300 cars of different makes, models, and vintages, this show benefits SJRC Texas. 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free for spectators. Website.
Boerne Handmade Market (Boerne)
This award-winning market featuring regionally-produced handmade items is considered among the best in the Hill Country region. (See also our 2017 feature story.) 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. $5 for adults; free 12 and under. Website.
April 23
Bexar County High School Film Festival (San Antonio)
Join area high school production teams from Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina and Wilson Counties as they premiere their original videos showcasing area non-profits. (See our feature story for more information.) 7:00 p.m. $10 per person. Website.
April 26th
9th Annual Hill Country Film Festival (Fredericksburg)
Continues through April 29
Designed to celebrate the spirit and craft of independent filmmaking, the HCFF will showcase more than 85 (!) short and feature-length films this year. For more details, please see the website.
April 28th
Catkins Ball (San Saba)
The 11th Annual Catkins Ball will be held at Risien Park in San Saba on April 28th. The annual event hosted by The Community Foundation of San Saba County, raises funds to support restoration projects. This year’s theme is “Paint the Town Red.” Live music, dancing, great food, and drinks will all be available. 5:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. For ticket information, see the website. Facebook Event Page.
Eeyore’s Birthday Party (Austin)
Eeyore’s shindig one of the longest-running free events in the capital city, but it also helps to raise money for local non-profits who sell food and drink to attendees. Win-win. 11:00 a.m. to dusk. Free. Website.
Wimberley Arts Fest 2018 (Wimberley)
Continues through April 29
Art is the primary focus at this annual show, but festival goers can expect to get their fill of music, food truck eats, and the natural charm of Wimberley. Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Website.
Visual Arts
In San Antonio, the Common Currents collaboration continues with six prominent downtown arts organizations celebrating the city’s Tricentennial. We’re also a little partial to the Bexar County High School Film Festival at the Tobin Center (April 23).
Mockingbird Mobile Cinema of San Antonio heads to Austin for How Does Your Garden Grow? (April 7), an evening of short films on scarcity, water, and growth at Ella Austin Community Center. Seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket.
Thanks to the Austin Museum Partnership‘s April 2018 calendar, we discovered several other interesting events–including the opening of the Krista Steinke Good Luck with the Sun exhibition (April 28 through June 7) at Women and their Work.
Performing Arts
The legendary Tuesday Music Club in S.A. hosts pianist Martina Filjak (April 10 at 2 p.m.). Also in the Alamo City, the Ford Mariachi Celebration runs for three days, showcases young mariachi and folkloric groups, and is free to the public (April 24 – 26).
Brauntex Theatre in New Braunfels is hosting an evening with Ruthie Foster (April 20). Meanwhile, Kerrville’s Cailloux Theatre is hosting a tribute to the Gershwins (April 6 – 21) and the Hill Country Youth Orchestra‘s spring concert (April 29). And get ready to kick up your heels, y’all, at an old-fashioned street dance in San Saba at the Pecan Street Dance XVIII with music provided by Jason Boland and the Stragglers (April 14).
Finally, there’s the usual good stuff on the dance hall circuit: Floore’s Country Store (Zane Williams, April 21), Gruene Hall (Delbert McClinton, April 28), and Luckenbach (Chris Knight and Travis Meadows, April 21).
