Last February, we introduced you to our inaugural collection of romantic places perfect for a weekend getaway. For 2019, we have a few more to recommend, with the same emphasis on establishments reflecting the region’s distinct, authentic character.
Arranged alphabetically by community, we think this year’s assortment is especially dreamy.
We’ve got everything from the fancy (Boerne’s The William) to the marvelously low-key (Kerrville’s River Trail Cottages). Again, we assume only two adults will be traveling, so check with the properties regarding whether or not pets and/or children are welcome.

Blanco Riverside Cottages (Blanco)
If you’ve ever been to Blanco for the annual lavender festival, then you may have spotted these iconic riverside cottages overlooking the cool, inviting river. Did you know, however, that the property also rents four luxury, Tuscan-inspired villas? For those who prefer to bring their own bed, there’s an RV park, too. Address: 20 Main St., Blanco, TX 78606. Telephone: 830-330-4324. BlancoRiversideGetaway.com
The William (Boerne)
Newly renovated, this elegant retreat situated on Boerne’s Main Street prides itself on offering “boutique luxury and exclusivity.” The William is ideal for special occasions given its proximity to fine dining and delightful shops, all within easy walking distance on the Hill Country Mile. Address: 179 S. Main St., Boerne, TX 78006. Telephone: 830-249-2138. TheWilliamBoerne.com
Meyer Bed & Breakfast (Comfort)
We’ve sung Comfort’s praises often, seeing as the darling town near Boerne offers upscale shopping and wonderful eateries with (for now) far fewer tourists than other area tourism hotspots. Situated creekside on 27 acres beneath an oak canopy, this inn offers a number of lodging options and breakfast in the Gast Haus. (Pssst . . . If you’re planning a Hill Country proposal in Comfort with a grand wedding to follow, then note that the stunning Ingenhuett on High Event Center, featuring a breathtaking second-floor bridal suite, is just up the street.) Address: 854 High St., Comfort, TX 78013. Telephone: 888-995-6100. MeyerBedandBreakfast.com
Mt. Gainor Inn Bed & Breakfast (Dripping Springs)
With a secluded location and easy access to popular destinations like Hamilton Pool Preserve, Pedernales State Park, and a certain famous barbecue spot, Mt. Gainor provides rooms and cottages with modern amenities. Or skip the running about, prop up your boots with your honey, and sit a spell! Address: 2390 Prochnow Rd., Dripping Springs, TX. Telephone: 512-858-0982. MtGainorInn.com
Sugarberry Inn (Fredericksburg)
For over forty years, Fredericksburg has been the go-to community for Texans and other travelers seeking to acquaint themselves with the lives of early German settlers. Sugarberry Inn taps into that vibe with a collection of modern cottages designed with traditional Hill Country architecture in mind. Use this sweetly named inn as a departure point for exploring Enchanted Rock, area vineyards, and more. Or, if the weather is nice, grab a glass of wine and chill by the outdoor fireplace. Address: 201 N. Llano St., Fredericksburg, TX 78624. Telephone: 830-992-3489. SugarberryInn.com
Gruene B&B (Gruene)
Comprised of a collection of cottages, this delightful property is near enough to the heart of historic Gruene’s charming downtown but far enough away to allow for a peaceful night’s sleep. That said, if you want to shake your hips a little to live music, be sure to check out the legendary Gruene Dance Hall. Want a taste of history? Check out the delightful Sophienburg Museum and grab a snack at the much-loved-by-the-locals Naegelin’s Bakery in New Braunfels, just minutes away. Address: 1671 FM 306, New Braunfels, TX 78132. Telephone: 830-515-8891. You’ll find the inn listed on AirBnB.com and Facebook.
The Crossroads Inn (Johnson City)
We’ve written at length about Johnson City, but we haven’t yet mentioned where to stay! The Crossroads Inn is a reliable option, given the historic character of the inn and its proximity to the downtown area. Only a handful of suites are available for rent, so early booking is a definite must–especially during the town’s famous annual Christmas light show. Whether you’re in town to check out LBJ’s old stomping grounds, sip a little vino, learn about pioneer life, or explore the general area, this elegant, high-end property will serve you well. Address: 625 N. Nugent Ave., Johnson City, TX 78636. Telephone: 830-330-4955. TheCrossroadsInn.com
River Trail Cottages (Kerrville)
A riverside retreat with easy access to Kerrville? We’re in, y’all! With a collection of cottages, a renovated RV, and an event center fashioned out of an old depot building, this is the perfect place for catching some shuteye during the famous annual folk festival. RV hookups are also available. Address: 1709 Water St., Kerrville, TX 78028. Telephone: 830-928-9002. RivertrailCottages.Rentals
Sandstone Street B&B (Llano)
Ah, sweet little Llano! With a darling courthouse square, outstanding barbecue, a museum, and one of our favorite area festivals, Llano deserves to be on the radar of anyone eager to experience a Hill Country vibe. If you decide to venture forth to this riverfront community situated between busy Fredericksburg and cozy San Saba, Sandstone Street B&B is worth a look for an overnight stay. Address: 508 E. Sandstone St., Llano, TX 78643. Telephone: 325-423-2581. SandstoneStreetBnB.com
Bridget’s Bed & Breakfast (Marble Falls)
Inks Lake, Enchanted Rock, Lake Marble Falls, Longhorn Cavern State Park–if being outdoors is in your nature, then this small inn should make your short list of picks! Tucked into a 1911 home in the heart of Marble Falls, the property is ideally suited for bluebonnet hunting in the springtime. Address: 416A & 416B Main Street, Marble Falls, TX 78654. Telephone: 830-265-2202. BridgetsBedandBreakfast.com
