Beyond the B-Ball Court: Sixteen Sweet Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend

A shot from inside The Hotel Emma at the award-winning Pearl Brewery Complex in San Antonio reminds us that we don’t have to be basketball “fans” (get it?) to find something fun to do this April Fool’s weekend.

What a weekend! The “Final Four” portion of the NCAA’s 2018 March Madness event rolls into town on Easter weekend (March 30 to April 1)–and during the Alamo City’s Tricentennial no less. No foolin’, y’all.

As the kids say, it’s gonna be “lit.”

If you’re coming into San Antonio this weekend, too, we encourage you to set aside some time to explore the Texas city that Forbes named as one of “The 10 Coolest Cities to Visit in 2018.” To spark your imagination, we’ve got sixteen suggestions for fun things to enjoy beyond the basketball court.

1. Remember the Alamo — and explore the Riverwalk. They’re both located downtown, legendary, and worth at least one visit in your lifetime.

2. Shop El Mercado, the city’s authentic Market Square, and La Villita, a historic arts village.

3. Dive deeper into Texas history and culture at The Witte Museum. As they say, this incredible museum is where “nature, science, and culture meet.”

4. Give the kids something to remember at The DoSeum. (Seriously, it’s a world-class children’s museum.)

5. Ponder the art, history, and heritage of the American West at the Briscoe Museum of Art.

6. Get to know what grows here at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.

7. Tuck into an upscale, authentic Mexican meal at Paloma Blanca or sample a margarita at La Gloria.

8. Need a jolt of sugar? Grab something sweet at Chocollazo or a milkshake at Cheesy Jane’s.

9. Explore the city’s ties to Viceregal Mexico in the San Antonio Museum of Art’s stunning exhibition for the Tricentennial. Or head over to the McNay to see their equally breathtaking exhibition on a century of African-American art.

10. Visit the award-winning Pearl Brewery to shop, dine, or savor their weekend farmer’s market.

11. Take a nature walk in Phil Hardberger Park.

12. Explore your wild side with a trip to our famous zoo.

13. Go for a ride at Fiesta Texas.

14. Sample barbecue at The Original Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q out in Leon Springs or Two Bros. BBQ Market near the airport.

15. Head out into the Hill Country in search of our famous bluebonnets.

16. Kick back in your hotel room with some Wi-Fi and a new PBS special by Samantha Brown that demonstrates why our part of Texas is so awesome.
