Interest in wedding planning understandably peaks in the space between Christmas and Valentine’s Day, making winter a popular time for newly engaged couples to not only pick a date but also take a closer look at venues, flowers, cakes, and so forth. Thus, it’s no real surprise that the upcoming New Braunfels Wedding Fair (Instagram, Facebook) on Sunday, February 10 (noon to 5 p.m. at Village Venue) will showcase photographers, bakers, event planners, DJs, and other professionals.

The twist comes in whom will benefit from funds raised from the event.

“I created the New Braunfels Wedding Fair as a fundraiser for the The Givin’ Tree, a formal clothing closet for students on need,” said Serena Morris. “We put on a prom event in March called ‘Princess 4 a Night.’ We will use all proceeds from the fair to help us set up a two-day event of free shopping for the students of New Braunfels and surrounding areas.”

Born and raised in New Braunfels, Morris said she has watched the town grow. She believes it is now worth a closer look when are couples are exploring their options.

“New Braunfels is the best place to have a wedding because we are right between Austin and San Antonio. We have beautiful venues, including Village Venue where we are hosting the fair. It has two stories and a courtyard in back for a smaller, more intimate event. Inside, there’s a grand staircase that could help any bride make a show-stopping entrance.”

Among the other businesses slated to have representatives at the fair are Texas Wedding Ministers, the legendary Naegelin’s Bakery (the oldest bakery in the state!), and the rustic Canyon Lake Cabins and Cottages.

Also on hand (hoof?) will be Texas Party Animals, a small business out of La Grange that has made a name for itself for its wedding alpacas. Yes. Wedding alpacas. They are totally a trend right now. But don’t worry, brides, the wooly, four-legged critters won’t run wild through the reception. These particular animals are trained to provide emotional support, making them uniquely, ahem, qualified as wedding guests.

“When I saw the Texas Party Animals, I knew I had to have them be a part of the event. They literally stop traffic. They are super adorable in person,” said Morris. “Every bride needs to have a wedding alpaca! We have so many great vendors. We have DJs, caterers, cakes–lots of delicious food is a must! We will have Big Ass Balloons–yes, that’s their name–who will be creating a peacock garland for us. They make big balloons of all colors. They create really unique additions to any event definitely worth checking out.” [Update: due to unforeseen circumstances, the balloon company has had to cancel.]

Morris is hopeful that, with good attendance at the fair, she’ll be able to repeat it in 2020. “My goals it to make it as big as the shows in San Antonio and Austin, but instead of doing it twice a year, we’d just do it annually, in February.”
