It’s Time for San Saba’s Pecan Capital Street Dance XIX

“Let your love flow” . . . and head up to San Saba on September 8, y’all, for an evening with two music legends.

With more than fifty albums released in a career spanning forty years, David and Homer have bridged the worlds of country and American pop music to the delight of fans around the globe.

Yet you probably know them not by their first names but rather their last: Bellamy. Yes, as in the Bellamy Brothers. And this upcoming weekend (Saturday, September 8, 2018) the duo is heading up to San Saba, Texas, for the Pecan Capital Street Dance XIX in front of the historic county courthouse.

Tickets are still available and range from just $15.00 per person to a $200 table for a group of 10 (!) folks.

Here’s a few reasons why we think you should mosey to San Saba to see the Bellamys.

• Braggin’ rights. Did you know that the Bellamy Brothers hold the record for the most duo nominations from both the  Academy of Country Music (ACM) and the Country Music Association Awards (CMA)? They are living legends, and it’ll be really cool to tell your friends you saw them in person. (Be sure and tag us on Instagram if you make photos!)

• It’s for a good cause. The evening benefits San Saba Youth Sports, a nonprofit which encourages young people to stay physically active while learning good sportsmanship.

They’ve got an awesome opening act. The Bellamys are teaming up with Whitney Rose, a Canadian-American songwriter who’s now a certified Hill Country gal from Austin. Rolling Stone magazine said of this up-and-comer: “This Texas-based singer’s 21st-century update of classic country’s most cherished ideals–boot-stomping rhythms and take-no-guff lyrics–is rich with sly wisdom, its full-bodied arrangements putting the spotlight on her sweetly tart soprano.”

San Saba’s small town pride will be on display. The community has really come together to present this event, with an assortment of local businesses serving as sponsors. Maybe get to town a little early so you can visit the legendary Harry’s Boots or the San Saba Olive Oil Company? (A full list of sponsors can be found here.)

You’ll get to experience some serious Hill Country charm. For fans of our region, the drive to San Saba alone is worth making time for. Think iconic road trip views, with sweeping landscapes all around and big skies overhead. The town’s downtown area is fresh and inviting, but San Saba remains very much an authentic rural Texas town. There are amenities, of course, and hotels and B&Bs if you want to stay overnight, but what we cherish most about San Saba is that it’s straightforward and honest, with no trendy tourist flashiness. It’s just a great little town, pure and simple. In the words of the Austinot.com, “For the 48 hours I spent there, . . . I knew no stranger, and no stranger knew me. As I headed back to Austin, I knew I’d just had one of the best Texas weekends of my life.”
