Every so often, we like to take a fresh look at Texas Hill Country vacation and weekend getaway options, in search of new finds to share with readers like you.

This year, with a pandemic still raging, we’re focusing on five stand-alone properties that offer traveling couples (and small families) the opportunity to experience maximum privacy and seclusion alongside an abundance of authentic Texas style.

5 Charming Hill Country Escapes

  1. Llano Line Shack (Llano) – From the same folks who brought us the Llano River House (a noted Airbnb Super Host site), this new place is a Depression-era structure located in this small town’s Historic Railyard District. The location is great (several restaurants are nearby), and the upscale industrial vibe is the perfect backdrop for enchanted nights. (Instagram | Airbnb)
  2. House on the Llano (Llano) – As lovely as the location is – a beautiful bank on the remarkable Llano River, it’s this property’s outside stock tank hot tub (“hot trough”) that draws interest. And from The New York Times no less! The sweet house is new to rental listings, but guests already rave. (Instagram |Airbnb)
  3. San Antonio River House (San Antonio) – One of the larger houses on this  list, its cozy decor projects an intimacy that’s hard to beat. Located near the historic San Antonio missions, you’ll also enjoy easy access to the Alamo City’s vibrant Southtown area. (Instagram | VRBO)
  4. Hoffman Haus (Fredericksburg) – Among this collection of weekend rentals is a striking 1905 farmhouse with a bright exterior, pine floors and antique furniture. It’s picture -perfect, and guests can opt to rent the downstairs just for two at a reduced rate (subject to availability). (Instagram | Website)
  5. Sunday Haus Cottage (Blanco) – This tiny home in darling Blanco is a renovated historic Sunday house, a particular kind of 19th century architecture typical of our region. It only sleeps two, but, loaded with antiques and close to downtown restaurants, shops and the beautiful Blanco State Park, it’s among the most affordable options. (Just $55 per night as of early January 2021!) (Airbnb)
